The first book to present innovation and entrepreneurship as purposeful and systematic discipline which explains and analyzes the challenges and opportunities of America's new entrepreneurial economy. A superbly practical book that explains what established businesses, public survey institutions, and new yentures have to know, have to learn, and have to do in today's economy and marketplace.

…chapters from all his books, and then you can pick out what seems most interesting from that. I'm currently reading "The Post-capitalistic society", which is fascinating, and I recall really enjoying "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" as well. I don't remember where the bit about profits came from - I think it was in The Essential Drucker. (To be honest, all the business books I read kinda run together in my head, and I'm lucky…

As an antidote, I'd like to recommend Peter F. Drucker's 1985 book, "Innovation and Entrepreneurship": https://www.amazon.com/Innovation-Entrepreneurship-Peter-F-D... Drucker was a critic of the idea that small firms are more innovative than large firms. He provides a wealth of innovation about the…

"I often saw the best practices of general management fail startups." Even a quick reading Peter Drucker offers a lot of wisdom for managing a startup. "The Effective Executive" and "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" have a lot to say about managing time, priorities, and posteriorities (what you are NOT going to do or organized abandonment) that are highly relevant to getting a startup off the ground and growing.…

"Innovation & Entrepreneurship" by Peter F. Drucker. A book from 1985 that makes many books discussed here on Hacker News seem obsolete ("Four steps to the epiphany", etc.). Drucker discusses 7 sources for finding the right idea, entrepreneurial management and startup strategies. I was really suprised how good this book was: Very insightful and fun to read. Price was 1,93 an Amazon Germany. B

A business is something that has clearly defined cash flows. Ie you put money here and you get money there. A startup is a new venture which is trying to become a business. Read drucker's "innovation and entrepreneurship" - he clearly describes the difference. Infact if you read this one book, you can skip every other business book including "4 steps to the epiphany", . It's incredible that his book was written in 1985!

And Drucker's Innovation and Entrepreneurship a bit latter that decade. I recommend all of them and also Porter's 5 forces update article in HBR.

I'd recommend Peter Drucker's book from 1985, "Innovation And Entrepreneurship". Drucker points out that the output of a small startup is radically different from a large, mature organization. From a large organization, investors might want growth of 15% and final profits of 20%.…

"The Essential Drucker" has the best excerpts form "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" in a tidy 3-4 chapters. It's highly recommended if you like reading "The Art of the Start" and those types of books.

…judgment implied; entrepreneurs aren't necessarily superior to small-business owners. It's simply a matter of definitions. Peter F. Drucker has a good explanation of this difference in his classic book "Innovation and Entrepreneurship". http://www.harpercollins.com/books/9780060851132/Innovation_...

I haven't read all of it yet, but so far Peter Drucker's "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" is an excellent read. It talks about how to think differently, to turn situations to your advantage -- beneficially refactoring your views. It's not really a starter kit, but I don't think I'd want…
