For beginners, I've always thought Aho, Hopcroft and Ullman's Data Structures & Algorithms is a bit under-rated [1]. It's short, mathematically inclined and contains very clear Pascal pseudo-code. [1] https://www.amazon.com/dp/0201000237
on “Advanced Data Structures” ↗Thank you, this is a great answer that confirmed some of my suspicions. I'd be interested if anyone could recommend other good resources such as Project Euler. Perhaps the book Data Structures and Algorithms ought to be higher up on my reading list? I would feel a lot more enthusiastic about getting a copy and diving into it if someone with the context of my OP question could confirm that it's a relevant…
on “How to Rock an Algorithms Interview” ↗I haven't read Data Structures and Algorithms, but I can point you to a draft of the book for my current Algorithms class, creatively called Algorithms[1]. I think content-wise the draft is almost identical to the published versions; the main differences…
on “How to Rock an Algorithms Interview” ↗…you'll probably get the ones everyone knows about: - Introduction to Algorithms by Thomas H. Corman - Algorithms by Robert Sedgewick & Kevin Wayne - The Algorithm Design Manual by Steve S. Skiena - Data Structures and Algorithms. Aho, Ullman & Hopcroft - ... Simiarly, just Google "best books software engineering".
on “Ask HN: Did preparing for LeetCode type of interviews improve your skills?” ↗Back in the dark ages when 'Data Structures and Algorithms' was our state of the art textbook, we called the author trio of Aho, Hopcroft, and Ullman the 'Three Wise Men.' Glad to see Aho and Ullman get more serious recognition.
