"The Jaunt" is a horror short story by Stephen King first published in The Twilight Zone Magazine in 1981, and collected in King's 1985 collection Skeleton Crew. The story takes place early in the 24th century, when the technology for teleportation, referred to as "Jaunting", is commonplace, allowing for instantaneous transportation across enormous distances, even to other planets in the Solar System.

The Jaunt by Stephen King is another of my favorite https://readsonlinefree.com/stephen-king/308254-the_jaunt https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jaunt
on “Isaac Asimov: The Last Question” ↗> The Jaunt by Stephen King God, that story. Such a simple plot, and yet the existential terror of what it describes is beyond comprehension.
on “I spent 29 years in solitary confinement (2010)” ↗Check out the short story The Jaunt by Stephen King. Serious existential terror.
on “They're Made Out of Meat” ↗See also : The Jaunt, by Stephen King.
on “If the moon were only 1 pixel: A tediously accurate solar system model (2014)” ↗Maybe I shouldn't post this online, but this is one of my biggest fears. Just, being trapped somewhere, alone with your thoughts, with nothing to do. After reading The Jaunt by Stephen King, I was on edge for a day or two afterwards.
on “I spent 29 years in solitary confinement (2010)” ↗> After reading The Jaunt by Stephen King, I was on edge for a day or two afterwards. The story has been optioned [1], will be interesting if it does come out as a feature film. What would be really interesting is if it is used…
on “I spent 29 years in solitary confinement (2010)” ↗Stephen King also wrote the short scifi story The Jaunt which is similar. Basically a scientist makes a stargate type of device. Nonliving things that go through end up fine but living things like mice would either immediately just die or go absolute insane…
on “Trapped in his body for 12 years, a man breaks free (2015)” ↗There have been a lot of moves like this by the big oil companies lately. It reminds me of a Stephen King short story called "The Jaunt." The story is about the world after man has invented teleportation. Aside from being a handy way for the mafia to dispose of bodies, it also made burning dinosaurs unnecessary for transportation.…

on “JEDEC publishes GDDR7 graphics memory standard” ↗Whenever I hear people talk about rocket flights I think of the Stephen King short story "The Jaunt". Humans develop near-instant transportation but you have to be unconscious while travelling. A kid avoids being sedated and is driven insane by whatever interdimensional stuff he sees in transit. Likewise…
on “Dude, where's my supersonic jet?” ↗Just like The Jaunt by Stephen King. "It's longer than you think, dad! ...about 22 hours."
