…design-problem space. "Pragmatic Programmer" was a big help. I have found test-driven development an enormous help. It feels cumbersome, but you always know what problem you're trying to solve. "Test Driven JavaScript Development", Johansen, is an excellent overview of the approach. I'm also trying to work through Beck's "Test Driven Development By Example" doing the exercises in Ruby, but it's a side project that hasn't gotten…

I am but an egg, but . . . "Test Driven JavaScript Development", Chris Johansen, might serve. Not many exercises, but it walks through some of the core JavaScript principles, using tests as a learning / exploring device. "Here's a test showing how the <<…

I highly recommend "Test-Driven JavaScript Development" http://tddjs.com/ for learning JavaScript. Because it involves actual coding.

As an alternative, see: Test-Driven JavaScript Development (the book) http://tddjs.com/

  • Been reading this one on my Kindle app, but it seems very "entry level" so far. You know of any good Intermediate to Advanced JS books out there? I have Test Driven JavaScript Development by Christian Johansen that I've dug into a bit, but have yet to finish (it's got some more "advanced" stuff I guess, currying, etc).

Let's Code: Test-Driven JavaScript - already raised $39,331 on kickstarter [1] - charging 'early' subscribers $19.95/month, but then it goes up to $24.95/month [2] OR Test-Driven JavaScript Development (Developer's Library) - paperback or pdf for a one time fee of $32.62 [3],[4] - Kindle for a one time fee of [5] (although the font size appears to be an issue [6]) - subscription based, along with…

I think newer Javascript books are beginning to add or expand sections on client-side uses and node.js in particular. Two that I know have sections are Test-Driven JavaScript Development[1] and JavaScript: The Definitive Guide, Sixth Ed[2]. The TDD chapter on node is probably already out of date in some respects, the Definitive Guide no doubt will soon be out of date, and both are smaller/smallish.…
