Why HN recommends it
Dense but thorough treatment of brain oscillations and how rhythmic timing organizes neuronal activity, valued by researchers and engineers working with EEG and neural signals who want a practitioner's view.

…actually understand and interpret the results for yourself, without the crude and inevitably inaccurate lens of the science writer, you have to read some of the books written by neuroscientists themselves. Rhythms of the Brain by Gyorgy Buzsaki is the best I've read so far.
on “Consciousness on-off switch discovered deep in brain” ↗Rhythms of the Brain - György Buzsáki https://neurophysics.ucsd.edu/courses/physics_171/Buzsaki%20... Enjoy.
on “A new doorway to the brain” ↗I worked at a neuroscience lab for a bit. I was focusing on EEG, the signals, oscillations, and emergent patterns in the brain. For this, they highly recommended I read Buzsaki's Rhythms of the Brain: http://www.amazon.com/Rhythms-Brain-Gyorgy-Buzsaki/dp/019530... .
on “Ask HN: What is a good introduction to neuroscience?” ↗…that are usually more associated with meditation and states of relaxation than theta. This is an important finding though, because it throws more light on how oscillations relate to learning. Buzsaki's Rhythms of the Brain is a great though dense resource for learning about oscillations in the brain: http://www.amazon.com/Rhythms-Brain-Gyorgy-Buzsaki/dp/019530...
on “Scientists find how relaxed minds remember better” ↗You may be interested in György Buzsáki’s “Rhythms of the Brain”: https://www.amazon.com/Rhythms-Brain-Gyorgy-Buzsaki/dp/01998... “...self-emerged oscillatory timing is the brain's fundamental organizer of neuronal information. The small-world-like connectivity…
on “Scientists Discover Exotic New Patterns of Synchronization” ↗It's not a sentiment, it's real coding. Rhythms of the Brain by Buzsaki. Cinema is already a prototype of differences, using space, and coreelating topological states. It's analog software that's been running for 130 years. Binary was always a dead end alley,…
on “The Trinary Dream Endures” ↗I strongly recommend his next book, "The Brain From Inside Out". While Rhythms of the Brain is indeed aimed at neuroscientists, and is pretty heavy reading, Inside Out seems to be from more of a hacker's perspective. They're good compliments to each other, but I found Inside Out to be a bit…
on “Book Review: Rhythms of the Brain” ↗…math only gives us a window into the complexity. Brains don't compute or calculate necessarily. As an analog, or analoga of differences, it never has to exclude, or experience loss. For the details: Rhythms of the Brain or Unlocking the Brain both volumes.
on “We can’t circumvent the work needed to train our minds” ↗I suggest you all to read The Rhythms of the Brain, a free book as a paper in PDF form. https://duckduckgo.com/l/?uddg=https%3A%2F%2Fneurophysics.uc...
on “Scientists identify brain waves that define the limits of 'you'” ↗Good to read Rhythms of the Brain for how SWR creates memories.
on “Astrocytes are the superstars of long-term memory: multi-day trace stabilizers” ↗…read next. I've heard good things about Luiz Pessoa's The Entangled Brain, but haven't read it. It's more general neuroscience than focused on applications of math. People love Gyorgy Buzsaki's books Rhythms of the Brain and The Brain from Inside Out. I couldn't really get into them, in part because he was--loudly--wrong about the brain stim stuff in that article--but that's more of a personal beef. If you want something…
on “Electrical stimulation can boost brain's willingness to engage in mental effort” ↗Neurology maybe, specially with the book "The Rhythms of The Brain". Still far from pure Physics. Biology it's more about classification/sorting than Math.
on “New research on anesthesia and microtubules gives new clues about consciousness” ↗
