Why HN recommends it

Aphoristic, nuanced and incisive, it serves as an accessible entry point to Nietzsche and rewards rereading, especially for those who want to grasp his train of thought before Beyond Good and Evil.

…constantly but I've read some/most of their books over and over again. Wilde's Intentions, Putnam's Realism with a Human Face, Dewey's Art as Experience, for example, and almost everything of Nietzsche's, e.g. Human, All Too Human or Daybreak, I find endlessly rereadable. Chesterton, Nietzsche and Wilde are very funny too.

…great YouTube channels out there that teach to the intelligent adult. Gregory B Sadler, Mark Thorsby, Daniel Bonevac, Carneades.org are the ones I remember being useful. Some good series' are out there: Human, All Too Human; Alan Watts' TV series; The Reith Lectures... I've missed a ton, of course, this is just stuff I remember enjoying or gaining something from. I hope this list isn't too overwhelming. I'd start with the…

I would probably recommend reading Human All Too Human, The Gay Science and Thus Spoke Zarathustra before Beyond Good and Evil. You kind of need to get into his train of thought to appreciate what he's getting at.

…phenomenological sense--that must occur if we really want to give a text an honest chance to affect us--Nietzsche had a few illuminating aphorisms on this point, I think most of them appear in The Gay Science and Human, All Too Human for those interested. It's a lack of a sort of meta-theoretical awareness required for resolving incommensurate theories and gauging and weighing them against each other. It's easy enough to select…

…tired of everything being a sales pitch. Someday I may want to look up the stage Nietzsche's syphilis advanced to without that following me around as part of my advertising profile. 'People who enjoyed "Human all too Human" also bought Doxycycline 200 mg tablets' - that sort of stuff creeps me out.

It's not some exotic Lamport clock phenomena or some quote out of Nietzsche's "Human, All too Human" ("Everyone knows from experience how fast the dreamer can incorporate into his dream a loud sound he hears, bell ringing, for example, or cannon fire, how he can explain it after the fact from his dream,…

Yes (ok) he talks about the concept of master/slave morality in Beyond Good and Evil but he talks about a lot of other stuff in that book. He also talks about it in Human, All Too Human and probably other places. I don't remember off the top of my head. But where he explores it at length is in On the Genealogy of Morals. The title's a bit of a giveaway. I've read Beyond Good and Evil…

FriedrichN? Is that an allusion to Nietzsche? It would certainly be fitting the sharpness of your observation. Wouldn’t be surprised to find the thought you expressed here in “Human, All Too Human”.
