This standard textbook of modern graph theory, now in its fourth edition, combines the authority of a classic with the engaging freshness of style that Is the hallmark of active mathematics, It covers the core material of the subject with concise yet reliably complete proofs, while offering glimpses of more advanced methods in each field by one or two deeper results, again with proofs given In full detail. The book can be used as a reliable text for an introductory course, as a graduate text, and for self-study. --Book Jacket.

…the 2 problem books on number theory by Ram Murty. Melvyn Nathanson's book is quite good as well. 6. Combinatorics - Combinatorics of Finite Sets by Ian Anderson. Extremal Combinatorics by Jukna. 7. Graph Theory - Diestel or Bondy/Murty. 8. Galois Theory - Rotman is great.
on “Ask HN: Math books like SICP?” ↗A book: Graph Theory, by R. Diestel, Springer Verlag.
on “Applications of Graph Theory (2007)” ↗The Diestel book is great if you already know Graph Theory. The proofs are exquisitely concise, but it's hard to read because you have to think really hard about the definitions and why they're giving in precisely that way (hint: to make the proofs more concise!).
on “I don’t understand Graph Theory” ↗Completely in agreement. I really dislike when math books don't have solutions to exercises available, since I self-study. Like Diestel's Graph Theory is great, it's the book you want to read if you're serious about the subject (D.B. West's book has exercises with solutions, I suppose), but there's absolutely no solutions to be found anywhere; the hints…
on “Linear Algebra by Jim Hefferon – free textbook” ↗There is a book "Graph Theory" by Reinhard Diestel. There used to be an online version as a pdf, but it seems to be gone now. The Archive has it: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.math.uni-hamburg.de/... (the pdf is almost 3…

on “I don’t understand Graph Theory” ↗Maybe it's better to say that a few related bodies of technique have been collapsing into a discipline called Graph Theory. http://www.math.uni-hamburg.de/home/diestel/books/graph.theo...
