…films about the Battle of the Atlantic - my favourite being The Cruel Sea. NB The author of the novel on which the The Cruel Sea is based, Nicholas Monsarrat, wrote a moving account of his own service - Three Corvettes - which is one of the few books that has reduced me to tears. Funnily enough I happened to read the book while flying over the North Atlantic... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Monsarrat
on “Quiet naval hero who rescued Enigma machine dies aged 95” ↗On the subject of anti-submarine naval warfare, I would strongly recommend "Three Corvettes" by Nicholas Monsarrat. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Three-Corvettes-Nicholas-Monsarrat/d... From WW2 rather than WW1 - but I don't think the North Atlantic had changed much.
on “WWI Ship Camouflage” ↗…remember that Nicholas Monsarrat, who served on RN corvettes, had particular respect for the crews of oil tankers who had an even lower chance than normal of surviving an attack by a U-boat. Monsarrat's "Three Corvettes" is one of the few books that has moved me to tears (ironically enough while flying over the very same North Atlantic). "The only villain is the sea, the cruel sea, that man has made more cruel..."
on “Body Count of the Roman Empire” ↗I don't know - naval warfare in WW2 could be pretty grim. I can recommend Nicholas Monsarrat's "Three Corvettes" on his wartime naval experiences - I happened to buy this without knowing much about the book in Heathrow before a flight over the North Atlantic to the US. One of the relatively small number of books…
on “World War II in the Pacific, narrated by my grandpa” ↗"The Cruel Sea" was also made into an excellent movie with some genuinely shocking moments for a film made in 1953. However, I am particularly fond of Nicholas Monsarrat's "Three Corvettes" his non-fiction account of his wartime experiences, one of the few books that has moved me to tears.

on “Quiet naval hero who rescued Enigma machine dies aged 95” ↗I can recommend Three Corvettes by Nicholas Monsarrat - the author of The Cruel Sea - it is his account of his experiences at sea during WW2. One of the few books that has moved me to tears.
on “Ship found in Arctic 168 years after doomed Northwest Passage attempt” ↗…vessels scuttled, rather than having them fall in enemy hands" The Cruel Sea ends with a corvette passing some tied up U-boats - given that Nicholas Monsarrat served in corvettes (as described the in Three Corvettes) I don't think he'd have got that detail wrong.
