> It’s the same language used when taking about “car accidents” See perhaps the book There Are no Accidents by Jessie Singer: > We hear it all the time: “Sorry, it was just an accident.” And we’ve been deeply conditioned to just accept that explanation and move on. But as Jessie Singer argues convincingly:…
on “Amazon confirms 14,000 job losses in corporate division” ↗…society where you need to put a child in a car to do virtually anything? Blaming the last failure in a chain of failures -- the drunk driver, the tired parent, the 737 pilot --- prevents prevention. on “Forgetting a Child in a Car Is a Horrifying Mistake. Is It a Crime? (2009)” ↗There's a book called "There Are No Accidents" that goes into depth discussing this fallacy that you should read. https://nyc.streetsblog.org/2022/02/15/excerpt-there-are-no-...
on “Tesla recalls 362,758 vehicles, says full self-driving beta may cause crashes” ↗I'd recommend reading the book "There Are No Accidents", if you haven't already. Really goes into detail on this.
on “Tesla recalls 362,758 vehicles, says full self-driving beta may cause crashes” ↗…friend a few recommendations based on their interest. I find listening to books far easier but they have to be non-fiction (or a reread of fiction) and not too complicated. And how could anybody be in such poor condition as to pass out that quickly from hypoxia? ... One theorem was: There are no accidents and no fatal flaws in the machines; there are only pilots with the Wrong Stuff. (I.e., blind Fate can't kill me.)"

I always wonder what American cities would look like were the auto industry less successful. [0]: https://bookshop.org/books/there-are-no-accidents-the-deadly...
on “To avoid Finland’s tax a 1,000HP imported Hennessey RAM is limited to 55MPH” ↗Probably a good idea to check the balconies. I've been reading the book "There Are No Accidents" and it mentions a ship tipped over four years after the Titanic because all the people stood on one side of the boat.
