"The Silicon Jungle" by Shumeet Baluja.
on “Ask HN: List of books published by Google employees?” ↗Well, I've read that Google coded XKeyscore for the NSA. And in retrospect, Shumeet Baluja's The Silicon Jungle almost confirms it.
on “We plan to have Chrome hide ads that do not comply with the Better Ads Standards” ↗That's admirable! But didn't Google work on search technology for the NSA? That's what I get from The Silicon Jungle by Shumeet Baluja. And maybe it was just dystopian fiction.
on “How a Pentagon Contract Became an Identity Crisis for Google” ↗I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was true, particularly given Google's incredibly close relationship and revolving door with the government. I haven't read The Silicon Jungle, but I might have to do that now.
