…Muhammad is generally believed to have lived between 570 A.D. and 632 A.D. Without a narrower range, it's ridiculous to say that it predates Muhammad. At most it predates the first known, fully assembled Qur'an from 653CE. (Aside: I realize this story comes from Fox News but its listing of dates as "Anno Domini" is in poor taste, given the subject matter.)
on “Fragments of World's Oldest Koran May Predate Muhammad” ↗…(Arabic شريعة Šarīʿa; [ʃaˈriːʕa], "way" or "path") is the sacred law of Islam. Muslims believe Sharia is derived from two primary Sources of Islamic law; namely, the divine revelations set forth in the Qur'an, and the sayings and example set by the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in the Sunnah. Fiqh ("jurisprudence") interprets and extends the application of Sharia to questions not directly addressed in the primary…
on “The .ly domain space to be considered unsafe” ↗um sorry, but that's not even in the same category of parody / satire. The Qur'an doesn't explicitly forbid visual depictions of Muhammad.
…going before. You cannot cite a narration chain to an imaginary hero and call it authentic. > Anything a hadith says is valid by virtue of us being told to follow the instructions of [Muhammad] in the Qur'an. Hanafi and Jafari sects would not arise if that were the commonly held belief. The verse exists, but it does not automatically mean all hadith are as valid as they were in Quran. See where stoning penalty…
on “A mosque rebuilt once a year” ↗…was a merchant, traveled, conversed with other men at markets, oasis rest stops along the trade route. (And he was not a frivolous man.) The reason Muhammad is said to have been "illiterate" is because Qur'an refers to him (yes, it is the most meta book I've ever read) as "the un-lettered Prophet". "Ummi". Personally, I think this is a misreading, since these are technical terms (like 'Pen' in above cited…
on “The Need to Read” ↗…that description. Whether it is stopping the planetary motion of either our sun or our planet for 24 hours to allow Joshua to finish his battle (Bible - Joshua 10:13) or Muhammad splitting the moon (Qur'an - 54:1-2), these are cosmological claims being made by our religions. I fail to see how my inability to read it in Arabic somehow makes this scientifically possible. If there is a conflict between religion…

Anybody looking for context can start here: http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/muhammad/myths-mu-home.htm "Understand that it is the Hadith (traditions), Sira (biography of Muhammad) and the Qur'an together that provide the true Islamic counterpart to the Christian Bible and Jewish Torah." http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/muhammad/myths-mu-rape.htm "It is against Islam to rape Muslim women, but…
on “Meet the Muslim-American Leaders the FBI and NSA Have Been Spying On” ↗If most Muslims believe it, why aren't most brutes? Or are most? > (except that one time) That made me laugh even though I don't get the reference. What is it? Also, according to Wikipedia, the Qur'an isn't even believed to be directly written by Muhammad. Is everyone involved in it's current compilation assumed to be just as perfect as him?
on “Bible or Qur'an: See a verse from either. Can you guess which?” ↗…strong believer is more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, but there is goodness in both of them." Just a minor correction: the above is a quote of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), not a verse from the Qur'an.
on “Ask HN: How do you overcome feeling completely lost in life?” ↗…Islam. That is not true as 90% of Muslims are Sunni Muslims and 10% are Shia. As for Sufism, this concept was not known to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions. If it does not exist within the Qur'an and the authentic narrations/actions of the prophet, then it is a man made innovation to the religion. If you want to learn about Islam, stay away from the small sects and divisions.
