…Fortran standard, or the Golang standard... It is the GNU compiler collection, after all. I'm actually particularly excited about a new release of gdc myself. I've been reading Alexandrescu's excellent The D Programming Language, and I think it may be just the better C++ that I always wanted, ahead of Golang and Rust.
on “GCC 6.1 Released” ↗I recently started using D and I was loving it so far. I bought Alexandrescu's excellent The D Programming Language. It's a fun book, teaches a lot about programming in general, and even if you don't think you'll use D, I recommend reading this book to get ideas about what programming languages can do. Then I ran…
on “Adventures in D programming” ↗If you enjoyed that you should pick up The D Programming Language by Andrei. It's a good read. Metaprogramming with D is a dream compared to C++ so some of the techniques in Modern C++ Design aren't even necessary. http://www.amazon.com/D-Programming-Language-Andrei-Alexandr...

But certain…
on “Common Multithreading Mistakes in C# – Unsafe Assumptions” ↗It's not language-agnostic, but it's still a great book: The D Programming Language. The reason I recommend it is because Alexandrescu is a great writer who knows a lot about programming languages and the kinds of tradeoffs that a low-level, practical, and safe programming language like…
on “Ask HN: What language-agnostic programming books should I read?” ↗The Wikipedia page history section [0] talks about stability. The most relevant part is this: > The release of Andrei Alexandrescu's book The D Programming Language on June 12, 2010, marked the stabilization of D2, which today is commonly referred to as just "D". In other words, D is backwards compatible for 10 years now. At least, I don't know any breaks and the…

This is now past history as the community has joined around D2, just known as D, and strives to reach compliancy with the "The D Programming Language" book written by Andrei Alexandrescu. D2 development is made in the open with source code available in GitHub. Besides the reference compiler, dmd owned by Digital Mars, there are also LDC and GDC compilers…
on “Erlang programmer’s view on Curiosity Rover software” ↗D seemed quite cool when Andrei Alexandrescu's book about The D Programming Language came out. Since then, the language evolved, kept chasing the next big feature that would bring people in, never quite finishing the previous big feature. Meanwhile C++, Java and C# kept improving, Go,…
