If you liked this, you might also like Seth Godin's Bootstrapper's Bible. It costs two bucks as a PDF on Amazon, but I personally got a lot out of it.
on “Plan B for Fundraising (Guy Kawasaki making sense)” ↗…money. FWIW, my last startup died because my co-founder and I didn't do it. We wanted to write code. And consequently we failed. I learned this lesson the hard way. If you've not read it, Seth Godin's "Bootstrapper's Bible" is worth a look: http://changethis.com/manifesto/show/8.BootstrappersBible (and it's free at the moment)
on “Ask HN: Startup only has 2800 users after a year, should I do more marketing?” ↗See also The Bootstrapper's Bible by Seth Godin. Seth has a much better explanation of the benefits of bootstrapping than anything else I've seen. The eBook version is only three bucks on Amazon too.
on “Bootstrapping Your Company - A practical guide by Greg Gianforte, founder of RightNow Technologies [MP3]” ↗I highly recommend taking a skim through Seth Godin's "The Bootstrapper's Bible". http://www.changethis.com/8.BootstrappersBible
on “Ask YC: What would you do with 50K” ↗I've read the first half of it but I have mixed feelings about it. Yes, the advice is sound but the tone is dry; it lacks enthusiasm. The Bootstrapper's Bible by Seth Godin (and, generally, everything Seth writes or talks about) is much better.
on “The Art of the Start (by Guy Kawasaki)” ↗I am writing a book in technology. Something like 'The Learn Startup.' I see usually books are around 300 pages. Do people get time to read in that much depth or books like "Bootstrapper's Bible" that are very short (103 pages) and to the point are read more? The one I am writing is around starting companies.
on “Ask HN: How lengthy should a technology book be?” ↗…recommend: 1. Permission Marketing 2. All Marketers are Liars 3. Purple Cow 4. Small is the new big Books by Seth that I do not recommend: 1. The Big Moo 2. Free prize inside 3. Idea virus 4. The Bootstrapper's Bible (I am not finished reading this one, so don't take my advice on it) I ended up writing him an email explaining my frustration over "The Big Moo" and "Free prize inside".
