Why HN recommends it
Silly, interactive picture book that makes the reader say absurd words aloud, so it works best read to young children; parents say kids laugh every time and it suits kids under about six.

Some of my favorites: - "Book with No Pictures" (B.J. Novak [yes, that's Ryan from The Office]) - anything by Sandra Boynton - Boxcar Children series - Cam Jansen series - "Ada Twist, Scientist" (Andrea Beaty) We have tons of books, from a variety…

on “Sir Terry Pratchett has died” ↗_The Book With No Pictures_ by BJ Novak. It's a great book for friends with kids under 6 or so. You can see the author reading the beginning here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cREyQJO9EPs I've given probably 10 copies to…
on “Ask HN: What book have you given as a gift?” ↗Here are some kids books that I enjoyed reading. Getting a book that a child will want to read again and again, and that the parent won't hate, is impressive. "The Book With No Pictures" by BJ Novak is fun. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-No-Pictures-B-Novak/dp/0141361... "Pirate Diary" (Illustrated by Chris Riddel) is fun and has the right amount of gruesomeness to encourage my kid.…
on “Ask HN: What was the best book you read in 2016?” ↗The Book With No Pictures, BJ Novak. Apparently its a favorite because it makes the reader say a whole bunch of silly stuff. There are other books out there too that have titles like "Please Open This Book" and stuff that breaks…
on “Ask HN: Books your kids like most” ↗I find that the celebrity children's books are on average, terrible. There are some bright spots, like BJ Novak's "The book with no pictures". The worst is probably Jimmy Fallon's books, though. Truly awful. I assume many are ghost-written, but maybe more of them should be.
on “Why did so many mid-century designers make children's books? (2022)” ↗Mo Willems is awesome (Pigeon series, Elephant and Piggy). Some of the Dr. Suess books are still great and fun to read (I can read with my eyes shut, One fish two fish). The book with no pictures, the day the crayons quit, dragons love tacos, and the princess and the dragon by Audrey Wood are all books that I've probably read 100 times and still enjoy. As my kids got a bit older the Box Car children…
on “Ask HN: What are your favorite toddler books?” ↗The book with no pictures is great. As a parent though, it’s all about the performance of the adult when reading it to a child. I remember my kid was in fits of giggles every night when it was read :D
