“A young poet tramped across America, crossed and re-crossed the Atlantic as a cattleman, begged and peddled in England, developing meanwhile in the power to write with rare perception and beauty.” — A.L.A. Catalog 1926

…only thing that makes this more or less interesting than some tale of independence and "acceptable" survivalism is the contempt of the beholder. One of my absolute favourite books as a child was The Autobiography of a Super-Tramp by WH Davies. Perhaps it has coloured my vision, but I think we owe at least a grudging respect to people who can survive in the modern world (by any reasonable means) as such outcasts.
on “Into the woods: how one man survived alone in the wilderness for 27 years” ↗A very different man, but the book 'The Autobiography of a Super Tramp' is a fascinating read from the hayday of the tramp - about one manes tramping across the UK and USA https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Autobiography_of_a_Super...
