Nobody mentioned Schema Therapy, so I will. Schema Therapy is such a beautiful thing and Jeffrey Young seems such a great human being and therapist (unlike the narcissistic freudian type of self important psychotherapist). I only…

What do you base this statement on? Are you confusing BPD (borderline personality disorder) with bipolar disorder? BPD and NPD, based on several psychology books I've read, including the very good book Schema Therapy, are very unlikely to seek treatment.

I really like Schema Therapy, though I've only seen one therapist qualified in it, and while she started great -- gave me a long questionnaire that pointed out my maladaptive schemas I already knew were present(she made me feel "wow,…

Something that is perhaps a little more personal, but going by the "true impact" metric it fits: Breaking Negative Thinking Patterns - a Schema Therapy Self-help and Support Book Short and effective (although it's no substitute for a proper therapist). There can be multiple reasons for your behavior. What I think could help you the most is reading about schema therapy[1]. It's a therapeutic method which says we all carry certain lifetraps which we acquired during childhood. Some lifetraps: - abandoment: you are afraid of being abandoned by a loved one - worthlessness:…

I read quite a few books, from Transactional Analysis, to DBT therapist manuals, CBT manuals, and the one I loved the most and which actually helped me the most cure my BPD -- the Schema Therapy manual. CBT seems very well suited/tooled for point therapies, very through, asks you to do homeworks, note down thoughts, I can absolutely see how it works very well for a broad spectrum of point issues.…

I'm not a psychologist, but I read some interesting perspectives on the problem of avoidance when researching Schema Therapy. Surely, there are better materials than that, but I found it personally interesting and you might too.

…have ADHD, at least that's what the psychiatrist that diagnosed me with BPD told me when she handed me questionaires for ADHD. I've researched a lot about BPD therapies and the most promising one -- Schema Therapy -- models heavily BPD as being rooted in abandonment issues in childhood -- and everything I've read rang like hitting a nail on it's head, at least in my case.
