Summarised by Claude from recommending comments
A heady overview of the emerging discipline of synthetic biology and the wonders it can produce, from new drugs and vaccines to biofuels and resurrected woolly mammoths. In this authoritative, sometimes awe-inspiring book, geneticist Church and veteran science writer Regis team up to explore how scientists are now altering the nature of living organisms by modifying their genomes, or genetic makeup.

Synthetic biology seems like a pretty exciting area of study to me. Maybe get a copy of "The Machinery of Life", or "Regenesis". http://www.amazon.com/Machinery-Life-David-S-Goodsell/dp/038... http://www.amazon.com/Regenesis-Synthetic-Biology-Reinvent-O...
on “Ask HN: Does anyone else have the sense that “the good bit is over”?” ↗Regenesis by George Church and Ed Regis. Mind-blowing future possibilities for synthetic biology from one of the main leaders in the field. I wrote a full review here: http://radar.oreilly.com/2012/11/george-church-and-the-poten...
on “Ask HN: What are some Good Books you have read in past one year or so..” ↗I highly recommend Regenesis by George M. Church: http://www.regenesisthebook.com/ He's one of the leaders of this field and the book is a great intro to what's happening, future developments, pitfalls, etc.
on “One Scientist’s Bid to Build Cancer-Killing Nanorobots” ↗Regenesis: How Synthetic Biology Will Reinvent Nature and Ourselves by George M. Church, Ed Regis. Mind blowing to say the least.
on “Ask HN: Which book are you reading these days?” ↗Regenesis by George Church It's an interesting primer on the potential benefits of synthetic biology to society at large from one of the field's luminaries. He covers everything from engineering "mirror humans"…
on “Ask HN: Which book are you reading these days?” ↗technically it's not spontaneous. There are some thoughts out there that organic compounds can emerge from non-organic ones and, given enough time, "life" will emerge. One of my favorite books on this is "Regenesis: How Synthetic Biology Will Reinvent Nature and Ourselves" by George Church. I have also seen arguments for this in "The Blind Watchmaker" by Dawkins that was published in 1986.
on “Planetary 'autopsies' indicate worlds like Earth common in the cosmos” ↗Regenesis: How Synthetic Biology Will Reinvent Nature and Ourselves: George M. Church, Ed Regis. Mind blowing to say the least.
on “Ask HN: Which book are you reading these days?” ↗64-x jumped out at me as having George Church as one of the co-founders; I've read his 'Regenesis' book and it's a good detailed read.
on “Startups that launched at Y Combinator’s S18 Demo Day 2” ↗If you're intrigued by the possibilities they're explored in Harvard professor George M Church's wonderful book Regenesis https://www.harvard.com/book/regenesis_how_synthetic_biology...
on “Mirror image DNA polymerase has been engineered” ↗In George Church's book Regenesis, he recounts the interesting story of resurrecting the Pyrenean Ibex by somatic cell nuclear transfer and surrogate pregnancy in a closely related species. The source article is a great read [0]. The…
