on “New sci-fi and fantasy books to check out this August” ↗My comment will be flagged and removed which will cause me to reach out to Dang, pg, Jessica and others. Also watch Under the Silver Lake and read the book Ready Player Two. Plus music is a good way to try to understand the nature of reality. I cannot believe that Hacker News has become infected by authoritarianism. At least the IRC is still free. Come to EFNet if you want…
on “Navy speaks up about its “UFO patent” experiments” ↗Good thread! I suspect Jonathan Lethem's The Arrest and Ernest Cline's Ready Player Two will be stuffing many a stocking this season ;)
on “Ask HN: Who is reading? (December 2020)” ↗…one-liner. The fate of the alien civilization revealed at the end still has resonance to me in an age where people are talking about uploading their consciousness or living out the rest of eternity in some Ready Player Two digital-ethereal realm.
on “The Dig” ↗…zeitgeist, but I figure the future will be primarily whatever the wealthy minority wants. If that's so, then maybe the best hope for people like me is a future like the one portrayed in the opening of Ready Player Two (generally not a very good book), where a VR-obsessed multi-billionaire funds work on neural interfaces, starting with implants for disabled people and culminating in the OASIS Neural Interface headset.…
on “Debian still having trouble with merged /usr” ↗Ready Player Two. I kid, skip it unless you really liked Ready Player One. Dune, to prepare for the movie, I love this book but I could see some of the flaws now that I'm older. The book's recognition that politics…

To develop this technology in secret, the creator of the OASIS…
