books to peruse on amazon: McFarland: "CSS, Missing Manual" Crockford "Javascript, the good parts" "Pro JavaScript Design Patterns" Ross Harmes and Dustin Diaz "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide" Flanagan
on “Ask YC: Where to learn web design?” ↗…not even sure where to begin- well, I would start by not defining everything in the global namespace. Take a look at "Javascript, the Good Parts" for info on javascript's quirks and best practices or Pro Javascript Design Patterns. On the more positive side, congrats on releasing yet another useful project. This is definitely an interesting concept.
on “A secure way to store website users "offsite" but still own them.” ↗Jeremy Keith's "Dom Scripting" is a pretty good guide for getting up to speed with the basics of good JavaScript coding. I often think that a more functional approach leads to more expressive and concise code (having worked with Erlang a reasonable…
on “Ask HN: Design patterns resources for functional languages? (inc JavaScript)” ↗…recommendation can never be underestimated. Also, the only way to get better at interviewing is to keep interviewing. If you have a recruiter, always ask them what to expect. Do I need to dust off my edition of "Pro Javascript Design Patterns" or can I go in cold knowing that the questions will be limited to tools and experience? Is the company looking for a hardcore MVC Spring guy, or do they just need someone who knows Struts? Just knowing…
