Sigh, the canonical reference on 3D graphics "in software" has been the Foley and Van Dam tome "Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice in C" [1], followed closely by "Principles of Interactive Computer Graphics" [2] by Newman and Sproul. Followed closely by the Graphics Gems series, and then Watt's eponymous "3D Computer Graphics" [3] and "Real Time Rendering" [4] by Moller and Haines. All wonderful texts and…

Not sure about the specific text the parent had in mind but "Principles of Interactive Computer Graphics" by Newman and Sproull (1979, but I bought it in '81 in the student edition and it influenced me a lot in my youth) made a bit of the connection with Renault in the chapter on Bezier Curves - many of…

…https://medium.com/@donhopkins/pie-menus-936fed383ff1#8546 >History of Pie Menus >The classic 1969 “PIXIE” paper by Neil Wiseman, Lemke, and Hiles had the first mention of circular menus, which was referenced in Newman and Sproull’s 1979 seminal book “Principles of Interactive Computer Graphics”. The “lightbuttons” were apparently target area based (selected “by pointing at one of them”), unlike pie menus which are based purely on the direction of the gesture, resulting in a large wedge shaped…

…memos (Standard disclaimer: RenderMan dev, opinions my own, this is my speculation, yada yada). As best as I can tell, the row vector convention in RenderMan must have came from Newman and Sproull's "Principles of Interactive Computer Graphics" [1] by way of Alvy Ray Smith who referred to the convention as "computer graphics normal form" [2]. Interestingly, that book seems to have been inspired in turn by course material from Ivan Sutherland…

Just to clarify, not trying to correct anyone here, the third attendee was Bob Sproull, author of "Principles of Interactive Computer Graphics"?
