Agent-based modeling offers a more realistic approach to economic systems than traditional equilibrium models. New approachs including generative agents (ABM+LLMs) are promising. J. Doyne Farmer's recent book "Making Sense of Chaos: A Better Economics for a Better World" is a great reading for those interested in this field. https://www.amazon.com/Making-Sense-Chaos-author/dp/02412019...
on “Simulated Economy Tutorial” ↗This profile is apparently in part of the coverage of J. Doyne Farmer with the publishing of his new book, Making Sense of chaos: A Better Economics for a Better World, released this past April. More on that, and other articles, interviews, talks, etc., at Oxford's Inet site: <https://www.inet.ox.ac.uk/news/the-man-reinventing-economics...>.
on “The scientist who sees our chaotic future” ↗…Brain That Changes Itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Brain_That_Changes_Itself In summary from my reading of the book, current research seems to back the perspective that our brains are basically making sense of chaos: there's no standardized protocol - we automatically decode patterns from random streams of input.
on “One rat brain 'talks' to another using electronic link” ↗Doyne Farmer's group at Oxford does 'agent-based' economics simulations in this vein. He has a new book called 'Making Sense of Chaos' that describes it.
