Grab yourself a copy of Sam Halabi's "Internet Routing Architectures" (2nd Edition). https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/157870233X/ It's likely a bit out of date these days, but it's one of the best books on BGP I'd read back in the day when I was involved with building an…

Read Internet Routing Architectures by Sam Halabi. It’s almost 20 years old now but BGP hasn’t changed and the book is still called The Bible by routing architects.

Can I suggest beg, borrowing or stealing a copy of Sam Halabi's "Internet Routing Architectures 2nd Edition": https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/157870233X It's probably not the most up-to-date treatment of BGP and Autonomous Systems, but it's pretty good for learning the basics.

Some of these acronyms are specific to BGP. You could work in networking for years and not encounter some of them, especially if you aren't running BGP. As far as "bibles" go, however, Halabi's _Internet Routing Architectures_ is the BGP variant. TCP/IP Illustrated might not mention CIDR since it was still pretty new when those books were written. My copies haven't been opened in years so I can't be sure. If you've performed…

I can thoroughly recommend "Internet Routing Architectures 2nd Edition" by Sam Halabi. It's an older text, but much of it is still relevant: http://amzn.eu/5tCOQfW It was my goto book when I worked on BGP-4 odds and sods.

I don't, sorry, it's in my inbox. The part I snipped is completely unrelated to the incident. As far as BGP goes, Halabi's _Internet Routing Architectures_ [0] is pretty much considered the "bible". It's really old nowadays but it covers BGP4 (the current version in use) and not much has really changed. I'm sure some of the newer BGP books are excellent…

Well that was not what I expected. (Especially the “there’s really nothing difficult” part.) If you really want to understand BGP, read https://www.amazon.com/Internet-Routing-Architectures-2nd-Ha... or, if you’re looking for something online: http://www.tcpipguide.com/free/t_TCPIPBorderGatewayProtocolB...

If you're looking for a textbook on BGP-4 the I can recommend Sam Halabi's excellent second edition of Internet Routing Architectures: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0015V9DQ0/ It's a wee bit out of date having been written ~20 years ago, but it gives you the general gist of how BGP works as pertaining to the actual internet rather…

…that opens the door for route hijacks like this one. BGP is an old, old protocol in tech terms. The RFC for the current version dates from the 1990's. The go-to textbook reference for it (Sam Halabi's Internet Routing Architectures) was published in the year 2000 and is still considered up to date. It's really not equipped at all for the sophisticated threats seen on the modern internet.

This is known as the BGP book: https://www.amazon.com/Internet-Routing-Architectures-2nd-Ha... It goes into detail. If you're just starting out, get a Network+, Security+ or any other systems administration, security or networking certification that covers the basics of networking and…
