…does a ton of business, even though you could get everything for free. So there are ways to survive in spite of rampant piracy. There are also ways to improve copyright law itself. William Patry's _How to Fix Copyright_ has some interesting ideas on that subject. But in the end, that means that the solution comes from redefining the problem: rather than ending piracy, one must find ways to succeed in spite of it.…

…Hollywood has predicted "DOOM!" for every new tech, including the copier & VCR. The best serious scholarly legal works are by a guy named William Patry. Patry wrote another book that I read called "How to Fix Copyright", and he dives into the sort of changes to copyright would help. They are summarized in the book description as: > The task of policymakers is to remake our copyright laws to fit our times: our copyright…

…approach would be to fix copyright itself. William Patry (a famous lawyer & scholar of all things copyright) has a new book with some interesting thoughts on that: http://books.google.com/books/about/How_to_Fix_Copyright.htm... Like he says, "the proxy battle for control of technology and markets through copyright laws must stop."
