Why HN recommends it
A hard science fiction web serial exploring physics and the fundamental laws of the universe, told as an engaging, twisty story. It is a fun read for fans of speculative fiction and of the author's other work.

The protons as you call them are a fun quirk of the science fiction genre, "How do we explain the Great Stagnation"? Fine Structure by Sam Hughes is the first book I've ever seen do it.
on “Powerful Radio Signal from Deep Space” ↗Fine Structure by QNTM is also fantastic FYI https://www.amazon.com/Fine-Structure-Sam-Hughes-ebook/dp/B0...
on “There Is No Antimemetics Division (2018)” ↗Fine Structure, the story Sam Hughes wrote before Ra, is also really good: http://qntm.org/structure
on “Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality” ↗…fundamental laws of the universe have conditionals that branch on cognitive state of human beings, at which point all bets are off and you can assume anything can happen You might enjoy the web serial "Fine Structure" by qntm (Sam Hughes).
on “The Big Problem With “Big Science” Ventures Like the Human Brain Project” ↗I second Fine Structure. Sam Hughes does excellent short stories too, this one's appeared on HN before, and was how I was introduced to his writing: http://qntm.org/responsibility
on “Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality” ↗Qntm (Sam Hughes) has a number of works like this. Ra, Fine Structure, and There is no Antimemetics Division are fun reads that get really messy at times.
on “Accelerando (2005)” ↗
