An introduction to evolutionary developmental biology demonstrates how the many forms of animals evolved and came into being, documenting how the Evo Devo branch of science proved that all animal organs and appendages, from arms and legs to wings and fins, were created from a small number of primitive genes.

…the theory. Then read the book's website[1] frequently for the latest news. Other good things to read are the books by biologist Sean Carroll (not to be confused with physicist Sean Carroll) such as Endless Forms Most Beautiful.[2] [1] http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/ [2] http://www.amazon.com/Endless-Forms-Most-Beautiful-Science/d...

I would consider his 2005 book Endless Forms Most Beautiful to be a reasonable introduction. For something more less pop-sci I understand Davidson and Peter's (2015) Genomic Control Process has been fairly well received, as well. Though both are on the older side…
on “Does DNA have the equivalent of IF-statements, WHILE loops, or function calls?” ↗The story of what we know so far about the development process is fascinating and captured in this book "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" by Sean B. Carroll (2005)
on “When will computer hardware match the human brain? (1998)” ↗…loose, personalized retelling of ideas that have been standard in evolutionary biology for decades. If you want solid, non-Rogan, non-Weinstein sources, here are places to start: Sean B. Carroll -- Endless Forms Most Beautiful: Classic introduction to evo-devo, gene regulatory networks, and why morphology is highly constrained and reusable. Gerhart & Kirschner -- The Theory of Facilitated Variation: Explicitly addresses how…

on “Misconceptions about Evolution” ↗This is impressive. Yet, before you go the AGI is nigh, ask yourself a simple question: will this spiral in or spiral out? If we feed everything the model comes up with back as training data, will we get Endless Forms Most Beautiful or will we get an equilibrium?
