Why HN recommends it
The standard textbook on discrete-time signal processing, valued for building from first principles and rigorous theory; recommended for engineers and students who already know complex analysis and Fourier transforms.
Summarised by Claude from recommending comments
"The definitive, authoritative text on DSP - ideal for those with an introductory-level knowledge of signals and systems. Written by prominent DSP pioneers, it provides thorough treatment of the fundamental theorems and properties of discrete-time linear systems, filtering, sampling, and discrete-time Fourier Analysis. By focusing on the general and universal concepts in discrete-time signal processing, it remains vital and relevant to the new challenges arising in the field."--Publisher's description.

Nice write-up. The pragmatic title is certainly accurate. From first principles my favorite is Oppenheim / Schafer's 1989 version of 'Discrete-Time Signal Processing'. Its falling apart from all the use over the years.
on “A Pragmatic Introduction to Signal Processing” ↗…for this stuff. :) For math, you need to understand complex analysis and Fourier transforms. If poles and residues don't faze you, you know enough to read a good DSP textbook like http://www.amazon.com/Discrete-Time-Signal-Processing-Editio...
on “DSP Programming for VST Instruments and Effects?” ↗…good too. Modern Antenna Design by Milligan for a practicing engineer reference book. DSP: Understating Digital Signal Processing by Richard Lyons is a excellent as it has theory and practicality. Discrete-time Signal Processing by Oppenheim and Schafer for a textbook. I don't know what would be a practicing reference book as I'm a hardware guy. Comms theory: Digital Communications by Sklar for a textbook. SDR: SDR covers…
on “Paleotronic's 12 Years of Retro-Christmas Year One: 1980” ↗…called 'think dsp', available here: http://greenteapress.com/thinkdsp/thinkdsp.pdf is also pretty good introduction on the topic. but, as others have remarked, nothing beats oppenheim's seminal text 'Discrete-Time Signal Processing'
on “A Pragmatic Introduction to Signal Processing” ↗…philosophy to those who may feel they do not have the proper math background. “Modern Control Theory” by Katsuhiko Ogata applies the theory to thermal systems, fluid systems, mechanical, electrical, etc. “Discrete-Time Signal Processing” by Alan V. Oppenheim is a great book on its subject. Both are related to analytical approaches to systems thinking.
on “Systems Thinking in Practice (2016)” ↗Two texts I keep on my desk that are a bit more rigorous than most: - Oppenheim & Schafer Discrete Time Signal Processing (the Bible of DSP) - Manolakis & Ingle, Applied Digital Signal Processing (good discussion of orthogonal transforms). A lot of what I know about transform analysis comes from self study of linear algebra/vector…
on “An Interactive Introduction to Fourier Transforms” ↗“Discrete-Time Signal Processing” by Oppenheim is another great resource.

on “Digital sound processing tutorial” ↗I’ve spent a few hours reading the Mamba paper, examining the code, and watching Yannick’s YouTube dive into the paper. If you took discrete time signal processing in school, you will have what you need to work through the math. Here is my intuition about Mamba. It’s a linear discrete time signal filter where the filter blocks are conditioned on the input at each…
