Data Structures and Algorithms in Java, Second Edition is designed to be easy to read and understand although the topic itself is complicated. Algorithms are the procedures that software programs use to manipulate data structures. Besides clear and simple example programs, the author includes a workshop as a small demonstration program executable on a Web browser. The programs demonstrate in graphical form what data structures look like and how they operate. In the second edition, the program is rewritten to improve operation and clarify the algorithms, the example programs are revised to work

Data Structures and Algorithms in Java by Adam Drozdek has a lot of actual code that works. I think the code is online, but the book is worth buying because things are explained well (http://www.amazon.com/Data-Structures-Algorithms-Java-Drozde...…

https://www.coursera.org/course/algs4partI https://www.coursera.org/course/aofa The two books that helped me the most were: Algorithms, 4th Edition by Robert Sedgewick. Material: http://algs4.cs.princeton.edu/home/ and Data Structures and Algorithms in Java, 2nd Edition by Robert Lafore Both are in java.

I followed Coursera and the Karatsuba Multiplication algorithm made me reignite my interest in algorithms and data structures. Coursera is a good start followed by the Data Structures and Algorithms in Java book. Learning logarithmic analysis is a prerequisite in my opinion.

…I'd actually start with data structures, but this can be tricky as I don't know of a really good standard datastructure textbook. We learned mostly from professor's handouts. We did have a textbook - Data Structures and Algorithms in Java by Goodrich and Tamassia (http://ww0.java4.datastructures.net/) - but its quality was spotty. I also learned some from "C++ Components and Algorithms" by Scott Robert Ladd (http://www.amazon.com/Components-Algorithms-Scott-Robert-Lad...).…

…structures that has code samples in it. I recommend "Algorithms I and II" by Sedgewick or "Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis in Java" (or the C++ version) by Weiss. I also hear good things about "Data Structures and Algorithms in Java" by Lafore. The above books are quite apt for beginners. You should expect to struggle a little but you must persevere anyway. I remember struggling with sorting and matrix multiplication algorithms…

…understand the software design knowledge requirement, but I'm trying to figure out how deep does a candidate need knowledge in data structures and algorithms. Now, I have taught myself through a book( Data Structures and Algorithms in Java ) and learned about trees, list, stacks, queues, big O notation, recursion, etc.. I'm just kind of wondering if there is more out there that one should know. I'm not trying to figure out this knowledge…

…recently and we were taught C first and then C++ of OO concepts. I don't think anybody had issues learning OO concepts this way though most of what we learnt went out of the window when we started learning Data Structures and Algorithms in Java. It seemed a lot easier and a lot more could get done in the same amount of time spent on C/C++. But I still had a fascination with C. I tried to do a few networking projects using C which turned out…
