Modern Processor Design: Fundamentals of Superscalar Processors by Shen & Lipasti Computer System Design: System-on-Chip by Flynn & Luk
on “Jim Keller Resigns from Intel, Effective Immediately” ↗A nice succinct overview of Computer Architecture. Also checkout Michael Flynn's books; 1) Computer Architecture: Pipelined and Parallel Processor Design. 2) Computer System Design: System-on-Chip coauthored with Wayne Luk.
on “Computer Architecture – Michael Flynn (2007)” ↗…there does not seem to be a comprehensive resource bringing everything together. Even wikipedia isn't detailed enough - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_on_a_chip I know of only two decent books viz. Computer System Design: System-on-Chip by Michael Flynn and Wayne Luk (this is pretty good) and the older ARM System-on-Chip Architecture by Steve Furber.

on “Ask HN: What should a systems/low-level software engineer know?” ↗I would also recommend 1st chapter of "Principles Of Computer System Design: An Introduction - Saltzer & Kaashoek" for a more general discussion on complexity in digital system.
on “Entropy in Engineering Processes” ↗…I've read tons of Linux kernel code, source code of Linux packages, golang code in github, etc. Also, there are many books that discuss software design. The one that helped me most was "Principles of Computer System Design". Not all the parts are great, but reading the first few chapters & recommended books changed my software writing.
on “Ask HN: What's the one thing that let you grow the most as a developer?” ↗Most comments cover what I thought about this article (obtuse and too abstract to be practical), so I won't repeat them. However, I did find "The Principles of Computer System Design: An Introduction" by Saltzer to be the best book combining theory and practice. Part 2 is online: https://ocw.mit.edu/resources/res-6-004-principles-of-comput...
on “Habits of Expert Software Designers” ↗…as I dropped out to join a bank. I want to do something cross disciplinary and vague ideas of systems science especially since I read Saltzer Kaashoek(sorry for butchering the spellings) Principles of Computer System design and sort of using a systems design approach to manufacturing processes and such. Like a lot of ideas of CS are from Engineering Management like JIT etc and how the design of networks is an evolution of…
on “Our brutal science system almost cost us a pioneer of mRNA vaccines” ↗Principles of Computer System Design This textbook, an introduction to the principles and abstractions used in the design of computer systems, is an outgrowth of notes written for 6.033 Computer System Engineering over a period of 40-plus…
