…less money for the seller. Then I might want to go to another site and make more money for my item. You might want to look into using a 2nd price auction (like eBay) does. There's a nice book called Auction Theory by Vijay Krishna that might be of interest to you guys.
on “Show HN: Sell your stuff for more money with less hassle” ↗To me, the real guide to auctions for computer scientists is Vijay Krishna's Auction Theory (2009, Academic Press). At least that's what was recommended to me once.
on “Auctions and bidding: A guide for computer scientists (2017) [video]” ↗I'd highly recommend this book. The math is decently sophisticated, but it has a lot of cool insights. https://www.amazon.com/Auction-Theory-Second-Vijay-Krishna/d...
on “Bitcoin study: Period of exclusivity encourages early adopters” ↗…plausible that Google, Microsoft and Baidu could have made equally good use of it. It reads more like a common value setting, that is. So knowing the bids can matter. If you want to know more about auction theory (this comment may already be more than you want to know!), I can recommend Krishna's "Auction Theory" or Milgrom's "Putting Auction Theory to Work."
on “The auction that set off the race for AI supremacy” ↗…Classical Mechanics, Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Differential Geometry, Real Analysis, Algebra, Theoretical CS, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, Evolution, Game Theory, Mechanism Design, Auction Theory, Economics, Finance, etc. That would be a reading list worth considering! It would also take a lifetime to read all the books...
on “Reading list for those who love to learn” ↗Here’s another book of his on the topic - Putting Auction Theory to Work http://www.econ.ucla.edu/riley/271/Milgrom-Putting%20Auction...
