In 1988, a young Chinese man traveled to the United States on an academic research trip. During his six month stay he visited 30 cities and 20 universities throughout the country. Upon the conclusion of his trip, he authored a book called America versus America, which described the contradictions of the American political and socio-economic system, as well as a critique of capitalism and democracy. …the country of Wittgenstein would not have a large language model of its own, let alone the EU. It is insane. Many people just talk nonsense on this topic with China vs the US. Anyone who hasn't read America Against America by Wang Huning basically has no idea what they are talking about on this subject. Of course, total ignorance on a topic has never been something to slow down the opinion of a westerner.
on “China tells its AI leaders to avoid U.S. travel over security concerns” ↗…instantly I felt that something "clicked." The name was familiar. Wang Huning is the man who is the real propaganda chief in the communist party. To know more of his view of USA, please read his work titled "America against America." I will not be surprised at all if he is the man entrusted with running their stratagems targeting USA.

If you take Hunings' "America against America", you will see that the diagnosis for what he calls "Cultural Nihilism" (see also the CCP notion of "historical nihilism") is ultimately rooted in not much more than the orthodox concept of alienation…

You might be thinking of Wang Huning's "America Against America" (1991). Scott Alexander's June 2023 blog post on the subject hit the front page of HN last month. https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/assistant-dictator-book-clu... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wang_Huning…
on “"Rabbit Test" Unwins the Hugo” ↗People in Russia and China are saying the same thing about the West, having read critical histories of the modern West (e.g. Wang Huning, America Against America). Based on the data, a lower/middle class person born in PRC almost certainly has better prospects of upward mobility and avoiding poverty.

This issue cannot be ignored, which is why the forces of free trade and protectionism in the U.S. have been in constant conflict. — Wang Huning, America Against America as long as the US still export USD to exchange products, this situation will not change > how these Chinese firms are so cheap? believe me, we don't want this, we have no choice, just like all other…
on “Suspension of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong” ↗Wang Huning, then a little-known academic, was moved by his travels through the U.S. to write the book America Against America, in which he described a nation beset by social fragmentation, inequality, and political dysfunction. Shocked by the country’s problems of homelessness, drug addiction, racial violence, social divisions,…
