on “North Korea makes more sense when you know its roots” ↗Paul Fischer's book, 'A Kim Jong-Il Production' is well worth a read, not only for the story of these kidnappings, but of life in North Korea and its history.

There's a book titled A Kim Jong-Il Production: The Extraordinary True Story of a Kidnapped Filmmaker, His Star Actress, and a Young Dictator's Rise to Power about this story, pretty fascinating.
